At a time of hot weather in the UK , it’s about this time of year our family went on holiday. Having an August birthday meant we were often away for this event. Swanage was an early destination as we followed dad as he organised a school journey there whilst I was was about 3.
It echoed the efforts my grandparents took to take dad and his younger sister away.
Building sand casltes, cars and being part buried were all part of the fun. Swanage sticks in my memory for the railway station that I could see from our lodgings. Moving on in time the Isle of Wight was another favourite. We stayed near Seaview, touring the island as well as spending time on the beach watching the great liners of the time come in and out of Southampton. They were large and exotic, seeming to fill the sky.
Later camping as a family took us around more of the UK, with a family legend of always putting the main tent up in the rain.
Life moved on and opportunities for travel have exponentially increased. So from as far eastwards as Japan, into the Artic Circle, across to the west coast of Canada and the USA and down to South Africa I’ve had wonderful experiences. There’s mainland Europe too, creating a large portfolio of pictures, and many happy memories.
