D21, #100WorkingDays Summer times

I crave a little indulgence today because I’m not working as it’s my birthday and I missed publishing one day earlier this week. Being August born has a benefit of summer weather for most birthdays and often on holiday too. The downside is being one of the youngest in school year, I’m don’t want to dwell on that today. At Seaview IOW, mentioned in the previous piece, my birthday would often coincide with the end of the Seaview regatta that always had a lovely firework display, lighting up the Solent. In those days the only other time we’d see fireworks apart from November the 5th.

School holidays meant being around with the whole family as dad was working in schools. So there were games in the garden such as tap and run cricket with mum belting the ball next door. Then trips out, whether taking the 93 bus up to Wimbledon Common with my small sail boat, a car ride to Climping on the south coast, between Littlehampton and Bognor Regis. I recall eye spy, singing and 20 questions as we passed the time on those journeys.

There must have been parties too if we weren’t away. Thinking of a summer treat one delight was an ice cream parlour in Ryde, IOW. A knickerbocker glory or ice cream soda remain treasured taste sensations.

So quite a few birthdays have passed by now, and cards as seen last year are a kind reminder of happy days. And now for a celebratory day.
