Early days we lived in a couple of flats near Clapham Junction. At least one was above a shop, into which I tumbled down the stairs, once I was self-propelled. The assembled adults were surprised and not unduly concerned. And once, I was left outside a shop in my pram when mum realised she was home, not far away mind you, and had forgotten something.
I came to no harm - certainly I maintain no evidence of brain injury post tumble. Was it an age of comparative innocence? I wonder what would be said and reported about these incidents today? Being a parent is tough at times, have we become too risk aware and embracing too much caution?
