One day this week I witnessed the modest workings of a Magistrate’s court and a favourable dispensing of justice, albeit for another's speeding infraction.
In the past week our house has been without hot running water and heating apart from one gas fire. Today’s sees the new boiler being fitted.
These are however relatively small things. And thoughts of gratitude came to mind. We still have a roof and walls, and one fire as well as the ability to heat water. So many do not have such luxuries. Access to a place called home, as well the experience of justice, much to be thankful for.
On the same day I was reminded of efforts still required to overcome the injustice of prejudice in individual and organisational actions. I was led to the NHS Providers site that focuses on Inclusive Leadership, that has several examples of the work being done to make a difference on racism and racial inequality.
As a Freedom to Speak Up Guardian I was particularly pleased to read the piece on 4 Keys to organisational change.
The authors, Jillette, John, and Kulvant from Leeds tell us of the work they’ve done on growing a positive culture, having a vibrant Black, Asian, and minority ethnic network, being creative, and the links to Freedom to Speak up.
These are very appealing and are an excellent example of an approach that is not complicated, rather it needs enthusiastic and attractive leadership to begin to chip away at the injustice so many experience. It reminds us that we need to continue to learn and respond positively, and for that reminder I am immensely thankful.
